"At f-art we mix vernacular art and found objects with new and surprising work by independent artists, illustrators and other creatives"
images interior f-art

We have a selection of unique handmade cards, handmade artbooks, limited edition screen printed posters, original drawings by emerging artists. Selected contemporary pieces and art objects are chosen for there beauty and quirkiness.

Ours is the selective and random lure of the artists studio; a place where surprising
juxtapositions are linked by a unity of spirit.

contemporary pieces

Carefully selected pieces that celebrate contemporary design, one off pieces that will compliment any modern home.
From Varga 1940's prints, vintage Esquire magazines (1955 circa) and a vast mix of vernacular objects.

ant chair

Ant Chair 1940/48

The Ant is the first and one of the best-known of Arne Jacobsen’s stacking chairs. Jacobsen originally designed the Ant chair with three legs, which he saw as the optimum way to ensure a firm footing and avoid tangling with the legs.

However, a four-legged variety was produced simultaneously and has since become the most common type (officially, it did not go into production until after Jacobsen’s death). The three-legged Ant, however, is still in production. The Ant was originally designed for Novo’s canteen (in an order of only 300).

The Ant was named by Gunnar Aagaard Andersen.

forthcoming exibitions

Robert Race

Robert Race

We are proud to announce we will be exclusively showing the work of Robert Race. Robert make things which move in simple but interesting ways. Moving toys have always been made all over the world from wood, bamboo, clay, paper, string, wire, leaves, feathers and so on. These traditional toys have been a strong influence in his work, and he has travelled in Indonesia, Mexico, India and Japan in search of them. There are various pressures leading to their disappearance today, but they are still to be found in many parts of the world, sold on the street or appearing for fairs and festivals.

At their best they achieve a vigorous imagery and make ingenious use of really simple mechanisms. The makers of these toys have also been constantly inventive in their use of materials: They have cleverly exploited the properties of whatever natural, re-used and recycled materials were readily available to them.

Robert does the same and at present particularly like using driftwood because collecting it gives him a good excuse for going to the seaside.

parallel of life and art exibition

David Gray, Richard Heeps
David Gray, Stephen Davids

Photomonth in conjunction with Alternative Arts.
An exhibition of photographs by David Gray, Colin Jarvie, Richard Heeps and Stephen Davids.

The exhibition will draw together the work of each artist in order to constitute a cohesive vehicle for the communication of their visions.

The language through which they communicate is a complex vernacular, made out of the desultory and contradictory meanings and confusions which mark today’s post-modern existence, and which sits firmly astride key contemporary cultural crossovers.

Each of these artists is concerned with communicating their perceptions, ideas and visions of the world around them. Each one of them seeks in their own way to combine a concern for the history and capacities of their materials with the expressive energy of the artist in the moment. Although their subject matter is different, the artists share in common a vein of sensitivity and existential passion in their approach to working- shunning the sophisticated for a graphic, gestural directness.

From 4th October to 21st October 2007 at f-art.
