You could say the music is the darkness, the lyrics...light (or vice versa).
A black kid born on the Isle of Dogs. The NF were in full effect. My aunt looked after us when mum and dad went out for the evening. Would listen to David Roddigan playing cool reggae and dub.
Remember sitting on the balcony looking through the gaps in the rail staring at the Thames and in the background dad playing Calypso on his Vox organ.
He'll force me to play chords and bang on drums and I suppose that's how I learnt to play drums and keyboard.
Obviously I needed something to call my own... That happened when dad brought home Oxygen by Jean Michel Jarre and Marching In The Streets by Harvey Mason. I then started going to drama classes and putting on little plays for which we would have various soundtracks avaliable: Film scores has hugely inspired my music (Then in later's, Gary Numan, Ian Dury, Electro, Can, Soft Machine, Frank Zappa, Big Youth, Madhouse, Bill Brufords Earthworks 'some' Kraftwerk and Art Of Noise...
